Theatre Productions in Lancaster
Lancaster is a simply beautiful place to visit for a winter getaway. With the gently rolling hills of Amish countryside blanketed with pure, white snow for much of the winter, the landscape is a stunning winter wonderland. The many theaters in the Lancaster area feature brilliant productions throughout the winter months that provide memorable entertainment for your winter evenings on your holiday getaway.
From January 28 through February 14, 2010, the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster hosts Driving Miss Daisy. Driving Miss Daisy is the Pultizer Prize-winning production by Alfred Uhry, telling the story of a crusty, 72-year old Jewish woman living in the Deep South in 1948, and her 25 year friendship with her black driver, Hoke. This heartwarming story explores racial tension from the era, and the evolution of a relationship tinged with racism to a deep and color blind relationship. If you are planning to stay in lodging close to the Fulton Opera House, you will have plenty of options to choose from. Within two miles of the hotel, you will find the Lancaster Arts Hotel, the Rodeway Inn Lancaster, and the Best Western Eden Resorts Inn and Suites.
The Allenberry Playhouse also features live productions throughout the year, but is taking a hiatus for the months of January and February in 2010. While theatrical productions are not running on stage at the Allenberry Playhouse, the Allenberry does host Murder Mystery Weekends throughout January and February. Murder Mystery Weekend's theme at the Allebnberry is ''Til Death Do Us Part' and takes you on an intense weekend filled with murder, mystery, and mayhem. You will be invited to attend all of the wedding festivities as you attempt to solve the murder, including the bachelor party, the bridal shower, and more. You will have a chance to announce who you believe the guilty party is at Sunday brunch. The Allenberry features on-site lodging in a resort-style setting. This resort features guest rooms and spacious cottages, as well as such amenities as tennis courts, on-site fly fishing, a restaurant, and plenty of live entertainment.
