Wonderful ride and the information along the way was perfect. Everyone was so very nice. My only wish would have been to have more time at hill city before the return to keystone. Scenery was also great.

Great train ride! Kids will love it!

We came out to the black hills for the second time in three years we love it so much. We brought our son and his family with us and signed up for the train ride. Even though we had rain all the time we were there, the train ride was so great. Enjoyed ourselves and my granddaughter was especially thrilled. Saw wildlife along the way and got to meet and talk to interesting people as well. Would recommend highly. Got the pictures taken while on the train ride and we were so glad we did!

You should go! We made our visit to the mount rushmore area the week before memorial weekend on purpose...To avoid the crowds and the heat. The weather was beautiful for us during that time. We stayed right in keystone, which i would recommend. We stayed at the holiday inn which is walking distance to the train and everything you'd want to see in the town. We are young 60 year olds but the train was filled with a variety of ages and stages in life. It was an enjoyable 2 hour trip back and forth to hill city. I've been on historic trains before but this was by far in the best shape for an old train. We saw little wildlife on our journey, mainly white tail deer, but the scenery was beautiful. We brought our own snacks on the train and ate our lunch once we arrived at the hill city station. The black hills of south dakota are a gorgeous part of the country. Be sure a take a drive on needles highway and through all the tunnels on iron mountain road. They are a must! Also, mount rushmore will definitely not disappoint. It was amazing!!! It makes you feel very patriotic to gaze up at the 4 presidents. We are so glad we made this road trip!

Excellent time, great people running the ride. Best part was the scenery. Worth every cent and the memories were priceless.

I thought it was a great train ride! Super informative on not only the train but also the history of the black hills - i would recommend to anyone who likes learning something or pretty scenery (would love to do it again during the fall time!)

Great experience, get a train car with open windows

The train ride was a lot of fun and very informative, as well as scenic and relaxing. We saw a lot of things from the train that we would not have seen from our vehicle, including deer and wild turkeys.

We really had a comfortable seat and scenic views on the ride from keystone to hill city, so relaxing & informative. Having snacks at the train station was convenient, the hot dog was the best ever!. Staff, engineers & conductor were friendly, answered lots of questions & we especially were fascinated by the water tower & replenishing the engine, just wonderful!

The train ride was wonderful. Even though there had been a serious hail storm and the train was really late, the trip back to hill city went smoothly. Would recommend to anyone.

This was a great experience. We were able to see wildlife, the weather was perfect, the guides were very knowledgeable. Only thing that would have been nice was having a way to spend more time at the opposite train station to look around a little more. But, we were able to drive there, so it all worked out.

Really enjoyable trip through the black hills. Cars were extremely clean, seats in our car were very comfortable, and guide on train gave very interesting info. Would highly recommend (actually already have) this train trip to anyone visiting mt. Rushmore area.

Had to rent a car to get there, but ride was good, and since i rented a car for the day, i drove to the mammoth site, which was fabulous!

Highly recommend this train ride. You travel the back lands of keystone sd. The ride is very informative and it is really interesting to watch them fill up the steam train at the stations with water. The tour was absolutely full and when we got back the next tour was going to be full also. This was one of the highlights of our trip. A great way to experience the old west and see how travel was way back then.

We enjoyed the train ride immensely. I had made arrangements for help in boarding due to my friends stability. We were blessed to have chase, the brakeman, come to our assistance. He helped us to board before anyone else and looked after us two old ladies the entire trip, up and back. All of your employees were great but chase really made our trip outstanding. We will be recommending your train ride to everyone that we see who is coming your way, thanks to chase.

A fun ride into the past. Only suggestion would be to book your train ride early in the day. Mid july was pretty warm during mid day.

Very authentic and informative.

I did the mount rushmore tour for fourth of july in 2006. I took the 1880 train ride tour and i thought it was relaxing and fun. I went alone on my travel around the country, so it was easier to meet many new people. I had a good experience and was happy to see the mountains, and the countryside, and the places where movies were made....And even the past little house of ill reput on the tour. The greenery was lovely, and the wild life, though not plentiful, was enough to satisfy me. I only wish i had my grandchildren with me for this. Children will like it, and it is a nice little shopping spree at the end. They give you plenty of time to return to the train.

The tour was great

We took the train when my daughter was about 10 and now will take our grandson. Had a nice time even when the train had to back up and fire up a head of steam to make the grade. Learned to wear a hat on the ride!

While this wasn't the most scenic train ride we have experienced, we enjoyed it nonetheless. It is a nice ride through some beautiful country. We saw several deer along the way and the historical narrative is very interesting. A very good value.

This was fun but everyone should take a jacket as the train does not have windows!

Great trip! Beautifully restored steam engines and railroad cars with lots of good photo opportunities. Best part was the informative hosts that rode along and pointed out the area history along the way.

Description of train ride should make clear that the trip to hill city is the same path as back to keystone.

Fun and interesting especially when we were caught in the hail storm!
