The DuBose Heyward House is famed for its historical significance as the author DuBose Heyward's home. DuBose Heyward is famous for his novel, Porgy, which inspired the famous folk opera Porgy and Bess. The house has been altered and now serves as a wing of the house which it joins. The home was listed in the National Register on November 11, 1971 and also designated a National Historic Landmark.
