Brackenridge Park is a 343 acre natural oasis in the sprawling city of San Antonio, and it is one of the oldest parks in the state.

It is located on the north side of the downtown area, and is home to the San Antonio Zoo, the Sunken Garden Theater and a Japanese Tea Garden. There is a golf course on the south side and it is five miles south of the San Antonio International Airport. The San Antonio Botanical Gardens, and the Witte History Museum, are also nearby.

The park was established in 1899 on land donated by a man named Brackenridge. The park is on both sides of the San Antonio River. There are several historic and fun bridges over the river and nearby streams. The park has nature trails, picnic areas, wide open spaces, playgrounds, pavilions along with baseball and soccer fields. The park also has a narrow gauge train that was started in in 1956 and takes people around the park.

Brakenridge Park also refers to the part of town whee the park is located. The park has been a recreational spot in the city for more than 100 years and it is more popular then ever. There are a few small historic buildings to explore, but mostly it is just nature to enjoy. There are enough facilities to take care of necessities, and there are restaurants nearby. The Miraflores, which has entry towers decorated with artistic tile, is a small area that was create by a man who owned the property next to the park until 1950, and it has since become part of the park. Miraflores is a 15 acre contemplative garden.
