While not quite as famous as fellow mission the Alamo, Mission San Jose is still a popular attraction in the area and the largest of the five missions found in San Antonio. At its peak Mission San Jose was home to roughly 300 individuals, and was hailed by many of the day as a pristine blueprint for how a mission should be designed.
Areas to explore within the mission include a grape arbor, granary, indian quarters and church. Some of the mission's more notable sights include a sculpture of St. Anne holding the baby Mary and the Rose Window, considered by many to be one of the most pristine examples of Spanish Colonial glasswork. Offering a variety of interesting sights and intriguing history, Mission San Jose can definitely add a little wonder to any San Antonio vacation.
