Emerald Bay State Park is a California State Park located just west of Lake Tahoe, easily accessible from Highway 89. Centered around Emerald Bay, which doubles as a National Natural Landmark, this bay is one of the more shallow ones in the alpine lake— turning it a beautiful blue-green color— and is also one of the most photographed.

Emerald Bay sits on more than 1500 acres and when it became recognized as a National Natural Landmark the surrounding water was included, meaning Emerald Bay State Park was one of the first parks in the state with underwater features. This was done to help preserve various ships and wildlife that lay under the bays water.

Inside Emerald Bay State Park, guests can trek inside the Vikingsholm, a 9th century Scandinavian-styled stone castle, the ruins of a tiny teahouse situated on the only islet in Lake Tahoe, Fannette Island, embark on your choice from tons of trails, and of course enjoy panoramic views of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe. There are even some amazing yacht cruises in the area, such as the Tahoe Queen and the Bleu Wave!

Emerald Bay State Park has pretty mild winters typically, with highs in the high 40s, and beautiful sunny summers with highs in the 70s. With its convenient location, breathtaking scenery, and comfortable weather year-round, Emerald Bay State Park makes for a perfect nature escape no matter the season.
