Virginia & Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, NV

166 F St Virginia City, NV 89440
The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is a heritage railroad providing tourist excursions from Virginia City to Gold Hill.

The railways which were originally built to service the Comstock Lode communities, were abandoned in the 1950s and most of the infrastructure was removed and sold along with the railcars and locomotives.

In the 1970s the Virginia & Truckee Railroad rebuilt the line to operate a heritage railroad and provides an opportunity to travel back to the mining bonanza days.  The train conductor narrates the story of the mining boom, and life in Virginia City when it was the home of more millionaires than anywhere on earth.  Along the route you will see exposed veins of silver ore, pass by several of the most notorious mines; the Chollar, Yellow Jacket, and more before reaching the depot in Gold Hill.
