Virginia Beach, VA Weather Information

With its sub-tropical climate and long list of arts, entertainment and historic attractions, Virginia Beach makes a great travel destination during any season of the year.

Summer in Virginia Beach

  • The summer months draw travelers who seek fun in the sun and surf, such as deep sea fishing for mahi, tuna or marlin; scuba diving; surfing; and visiting waterparks. June, July and August have average daily highs in the mid to upper 80s and overnight lows in the mid 60s and lower 70s. The summer months are fairly humid, with June being the least humid of the summer months, and humidity building during July and August.

Fall in Virginia Beach

  • Fall brings cooler temperatures and less humidity, making it the ideal time of year for outdoor recreation, as well as photography expeditions amid the vivid fall colors. Kayaking is popular at False Cape State Park, as are hiking and biking. During October, Virginia Beach holds the popular Screech Street USA free family event, offering just one more fun reason to visit Virginia Beach in the fall. Daytime highs in the fall are very pleasant, ranging from the low 60s to high 70s. During November, overnight lows can fall into the lower 40s, so it is a good idea to bring along a lightweight sweater or jacket for visits during late fall.

Winter in Virginia Beach

  • While most of the country shivers beneath snow and ice, Virginia Beach celebrates a mild, maritime climate, with daily winter highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Winter is a good time to enjoy Virginia Beach's many indoor attractions, such as the famous Virginia Aquarium, or to celebrate the holiday season with the Hometown Holiday Parade in December. January is the coldest month, with an average daily high of 47 degrees, and occasional freezing temperatures during the night. Visitors should bring warm coats and long pants, as well as scarves and gloves.

Spring in Virginia Beach

  • Spring warms up to pleasant temperatures, but without the humidity of the summer months. Average highs during March, April and May range from 57 to 75 degrees, making this time of year ideal for birdwatching, one of Virginia Beach's favorite pastimes. Visitors will want to see the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum as well! Spring visitors should pack a few pieces of each type of clothing: short sleeved shirts for warmer days, and long sleeves and pants for cool days and evenings.
