Get wild with a trip to the Virginia Zoo for an afternoon of family fun, educational exhibits, and more! From your own backyard to the safaris of Africa, the amazing Virginia Zoo has it all! Open all year, the Virginia Zoo offers education, fun, and excitement for the whole family! The zoo is home to over 400 animals, all residing on a total of 53 acres of landscaped grounds. In addition to the zoo's impressive collection of wild creatures, be sure to check out the zoo's many gardens!
There are also delicious dining stops at the Virginia Zoo to grab a bite to eat during your visit including the African Village Cafe, the full-service restaurant that includes pizza, hot dogs, burgers, and more with both indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy. The Beastro features cafe-style snacks and on the go foods with veggie sliders, wraps, and ice cream available to beat the summer heat. For a quick treat, there is also a Dippin Dots and Snack Shack available to grab something small and keep moving through all the wonderful exhibits.
The current exhibits at the zoo include:
Africa-Okavango Delta:At this exhibit, guests can see beautiful scenic landscapes as well as amazing animals such as rhinos, lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and more.
Animal Wellness Campus:The Zoo's Wellness Campus includes a state-of-the-art facility that serves all the Zoo animals for their medical and diet needs. This facility is a wonderful learning experience for kids and adults alike as you learn about caring for all the exotic animals.
Asia - Trail of The Tiger Exhibit:Head to the Asian exhibit at the zoo to see a variety of animals as well as gorgeous waterfalls and vibrant vegetation. The inhabitants include the red pandas, tigers, otters, black bears, orangutan, and more all while covering a variety of Asian countries including Japan, the Philippines, and India.
Australia Walkabout:Here, guests will be able to enjoy a walk through pathway that winds along with colorful environments housing beautiful animals from Australia. Some of the animals you will see here include a wallaby, emu, and the Southern cassowary.
North America:See some of the amazing wild animals that call North America home. With the United States being such a vast and different environment through the country, there are a variety of animals to see including the Bald Eagle, American bison, wild geese, and the black-tailed prairie dog.
World of Reptiles and Friends:For those who love lizards, snakes, and reptiles galore, this exhibit is going to be a blast! The exhibit features everything from Siamese crocodiles, snapping turtles, snakes, lizards, and huge marsh habitats. There are more than 65 brand new habitats in this exhibit to explore.
Zoo Farm:Experience fun up-close and personal interactions at the Zoo Farm for all ages. Guests will be able to interact with pigs, cows, prairie dogs, sheep, goats and a whole lot more.
