Butterfield Overland Stage Days & Rodeo near Tucson, AZ

250 N Prickly Pear
Benson, Arizona is home to the annual Butterfield Overland Stage Days and Rodeo. Taking place annually for the last 33 years, this celebration brings vendors, art, music and delicious food all to one place. This celebration is meant to commemorate the Overland Mail Company. To reenact the vintage mail delivery system, the Benson pony express riders travel a route that is 20 miles long. A little over a decade ago there was a three year hiatus from the pony express segment of the celebration. This was due to not having experienced riders. There are four riders saddled to ponies who make this trip. The event also includes a two day rodeo and a parade as well as several other activities. The Benson and San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts a list of events that keeps all attendees entertained.

This event is interesting because it fuses many aspects of western culture. There is a children's rodeo as well as a professional rodeo. The celebration is kicked off by a parade on fifth street early in the morning.

Since the birth of this event, enhancements have been made every year. What started off as a parade followed by a celebration at Lions Park is now a two day event with an itinerary full of activities.

Whether you are a resident of Arizona or just visiting you would find this celebration eventful. Parents don't have to worry about finding activities for their children and you will leave feeling culturally infused. If you attend once you will most likely be eager to return next year.
