If you are a lover of bbq like I am, you are in for a treat. The Kansas City BBQ Society just hosted the Rim Country BBQ and Testicle festival. Not only is this organization a non-profit, they promote nothing but bbq. There are currently 20,000 members around the world.
You are probably wondering how all of this got started. Rick Welch, along with Carolyn and Gary Wells were having a conversation in 1985. It was during the fall season of that year, when they decided to start a bbq cooking club. The only rule was to not be so serious about the club membership. It was all about fun. How did they get people to join? It was done by creating a newsletter about America’s favorite food. The dues were only $12 a year. At that time, only 20 people joined. The BBQ Society began receiving calls from other organizations, that wanted to have contests in their area. They have been hosting these competitions ever since. As far as the history of the testicle festival goes, it started off as a calf fry. Ranchers were getting together and castrate their animals. Afterwards, the men would get around a campire and roast the testicles of these animals. The Rim Country BBQ Classic is part of the KCBS organization, that is hosted either the last week of October or the the first week of October. It is held in Payson, Arizona at the West parking lot, of the Mazatzel Hotel and Casino. Come on over to eat all the bbq you can, if you are in the city. The festival is open to all ages.
