Tacoma, Washington’s tree lighting is not the same old tree lighting. Instead, it is one of the most historical tree lighting around. After all this event has been held since 1919 and has never missed a year. There are two main light displays to take the family to see which are Zoolights and Fantasy Lights in Spanaway. Lace up the ice skates and enjoy with family and friends at Polar Plaza.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony kicks off the holiday season in Tacoma. The event begins with either a sing along or classic movie. After that is over, families can visit with Santa and participate in other activities while they are waiting for the tree lighting ceremony to begin. The night is filled with carols and the lighting of a 60 foot tall tree. Even though the tree lighting has changed places over the years, nothing including war or electricity shortage, as kept the tree lighting from happening.
Other events include Zoolights at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Visitors will be able to walk through about ½ million lights. Another light display to see is the Fantasy Lights in Spanaway. This light display contains more that 300 displays and is one of the largest in the area. The best part is the lights can be seen from a nice warm car. For an outside activity, head to Polar Plaza. The ice skating rink is located across from the Tacoma Art Museum. Many fun special events are planned throughout the season.
