Our tour starts at the Visitor Center in Ellis Square, on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. (formerly Montgomery Street), on the east side of Savannah's historic downtown. This is where we'll meet and gather for a few minutes to review our tour route and ensure everyone knows where to go when we leave. From the Visitor Center, we walk to East Broad Street, turn right and head over to Lafayette Square, next door to Drayton Hall. Our first stop will be near the large fountain in that area, where we'll pause for a short service of intercession for our group. We'll gather around this large sculpture and pray aloud that God will bless us as we travel the rest of the way to our next destination.
Next, we'll head across Bull Street and take a few minutes to arrange some tasks to prepare us for our main event: a visit to one or both of Savannah's cathedrals. We'll begin with a stop at the Cathedral of St. John, then head across the street to visit the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Each of these two venues has a small chapel in the back that can be seen for prayer and thanksgiving; there are quiet spots along the way for private devotions. We'll plan carefully for this segment of our tour to ensure that everyone doesn't end up in line at one cathedral or the other, waiting for their turn at these chapels.
