TEDxSedona in Sedona, AZ
TED was founded in 1984 by Richard S. Wurman, an architect and graphic designer, and started as a conference. Since 1990 the conference became an annual event. Originally TED served USA and Canada, but has since expanded Europe and Asia. In they early years TED talks concentrated on technology and design (hence the name TED), but they have expanded to science and culture. Some of the noted speaker included Stephen Hawking, David Cameron, Bono, Bill Clinton, Cédric Villani, Dave Eggers, Sylvia Earle, Madeleine Albright, and Edward Burtynsky. By 2012 TED talks were viewed one billion times worldwide.
TEDx events were introduced in 2009. They are independent events organized by local communities. The first TEDxSedona was held in 2017 to a sold out audience. The event featured national and local speakers such as Michael Greger, M.D.; Denise Brousseau, CEO of Thought Leadership Lab; Deesha Dyer, former Obama Administration’s Social Secretary; Zoe Wild, founder of Director of One Light Global; Dean Taraborelli, founder of the Sanctuary at Sedona; Sherab Shey Khandro, an artist formally trained by Tibetan masters; and Gary Greenberg, Ph.D., a scientist and an artist. The last year’s speakers can be viewed on the TEDxSedona YouTube channel.
TED is one of the most, if not most, anticipated events worldwide. The “ideas worth spreading”, TED’s slogan, encompass an impressive range of concepts and theories in the fields of science, philosophy, self-improvement, history, discovery, medicine, environment, technology, design, art and many more. 2018 TEDx Sedona will be held on November 3, 2018 at The Collective Sedona. If you’re interested in hearing extraordinary ideas, TEDxSedona is the place to hear them.
