Mogollon Rim Run
You can trek along the historical trails of the rim with the most amazing photo oportunities. The Mogollon Rim stretches north of the Tonto National Forest and Fort Apache Reservation.Your adventure begins by getting away fro it all into the back country. First you need to stop at the Mogollon Rim Visitor Center to get a trail guide of the 235 road trails. The visitors center is located north of Payson adjacent of the General Crook Trail and all trails are opened from around May 19th thru Labor Day in September.
Activity: You can take an open-door jeep, a bike, or on horseback on any of the trails that meander through steep canyons, by lakes, and tall Ponderosa pines. You may want to start at sunrise to see the wild life which includes; bald eagles, javelinas, elk, deer, moutain lions, mountain goats and others that use the Mogollon Rim as home.
- once you reach the Mogollon Rim you want to make sure you are dressed appropriately for the environment for hiking because there is terrain that is unpaved or uneven, bring plenty of water to drink, sunscreen and/or bug spray and trail mix snacks.
Here are some of the top trails that range from easy to difficult of exertion on your body. The top trails are: Woods Canyon Lake, Bear Canyon Lake, Fossil Spring (via flume trail), and Christopher Creek.
