Jimi Hendrix Memorial near Seattle, WA

350 Monroe Avenue Northeast Renton, WA 98056
Jimi Hendrix lives on in the history of rock music. The musician who is remembered for his unforgettable performances at Woodstock, Monterey and the Isle of Wight has left an indelible impression on his admirers. Now fans can pay their respects to one of the greatest guitarists of all time at the Jimi Hendrix Memorial, located at Greenwood Memorial Park, 350 Monroe Avenue Northeast in Renton, Washington near Seattle. The memorial pays homage to Hendrix who quickly achieved cult status with his band the Jimi Hendrix Experience and transformed rock music. Hendrix’s legacy extended to the recording studio. He formed Electric Lady Studios to experiment with his sound and gain further control over producing his music. A visionary artist, Hendrix tragically died at the young age of 28.

The Jimi Hendrix Memorial got its start through his father James “Al” Hendrix. Upon his son’s death, he had Jimi’s body interred at the family plot with other family members in Greenwood Memorial Park. It would be after a court battle in the 1990s that Al Hendrix secured the rights to Jimi’s financial affairs and the means to proceed with the memorial.

Today the site is marked by a concrete dome supported by three large pillars with engraved images, quotes and song lyrics on them. Each year fans come to celebrate Jimi’s life and musical legacy on his birthday, November 27th, and on Christmas when fans can decorate a tree in his memory.
