There is no better way to explore L.A.'s creative scene than to visit breweries and galleries on a beer-and-art tour. Here are just some of the participating stops for this adventure:

Beverly Arts Center, where you can listen to jazz with live artists; Hammer Museum, which features an exhibition on the subjectivity of taste; El Segundo Brewing Company, which is renowned for its Belgian-style beers with complex flavors; and The Silver Lake Brewery, where you can learn about L.A.'s historic craft brewing industry from founders Luke Shipman. It is a unique tour for history buffs, art fans, and beer lovers – one not to be missed.

The first brewery in Los Angeles was the Eagle Brewery in 1833. It was founded and run by the Anglo settlers of Los Angeles, who were educated and wealthy. The beer produced there was full-bodied and spiced, a huge contrast from the popular light lager. Even still, these beers were deemed too strong by local drinkers. Eventually, small breweries would begin to pop up around Los Angeles. They served more sensitive drinkers and immigrants coming into town who liked their beer milder.

In 1874, brewmaster Joe Alton, a Scottish immigrant, opened the first microbrewery in Los Angeles, now the El Segundo Brewing Company. He named it after John Jacob Astor, who is famous for establishing the brewery on the Pacific Coast and being reported to have prostitutes available in the basement.

Today's breweries are still producing a lot of beer and eating businesses. Chefs have begun to recognize a huge food market paired with their beer. Also, many gastropubs are beginning to open up around L.A. This tour not only walks you through L.A.
