Make plans to attend the event of the year, in El Cajon, California. The German American Society of San Diego hosts this yearly event at their social club, and the public is invited. This years event is hosted for two weekends. The first is September 28th thru the 30th. Friday starts at 4:00Pm to 10:00PM, Saturday and Sunday are both from 12:00PM to 10:00PM. The following weekend, October 5-7th, with the same schedule.
What a great event with real German food, beer, and music hosted by real German folk. You can expect to have some truly great foods, cooked by local German establishments. Enjoy some traditional plates, such as Ox , Leberkase, Bratwurst, Suppe (Vom Tag), and sides like red cabbage, German potato salad, and more.
There will be ten different imported German beers to try. For those faint of heart, Coors Light, but let anyone see you drinking that. No, it's okay, sit back relax and enjoy the festivities. Real German bands come over from German to play authentic German polkas and more. There are the familiar tunes, such as the chicken dance, as well as famous beer drinking songs. It is sure to have you up and dancing, learning how to "polka".
Don't worry the kids don't get left out. There is a kids zone, guaranteed to keep them busy for hours. There will also be vendors selling all kinds of crafts. There are also sauerkraut eating contests, and just all around fun for everyone. There is even a raffle to win a trip for two to Germany! Make sure to add this to your list of must do's.
