Stand-Up Paddleboarding Lessons
Instructors at Surf Diva begin your lesson with the introduction to stand-up paddleboarding so you grasp basic paddling principles. As soon as the introduction is complete, you are immediately immersed in the in-water lessons, though you stay close to the shore on flat water. In the water, the instructor covers topics like surf sense, ocean awareness, board handling, and float plans. You learn how to balance and paddle, and how to stand and steer. Once you find your balance, the rest of the paddle boarding concepts are easy to grasp.
Stand-up paddleboarding can be slightly tricky once out in the open waters, with waves and currents rocking the board in different directions. After the hour and a half lesson with Surf Diva, you will be ready to learn some tips and tricks and will be ready to rip some waves in no time!
During your lesson you will see that stand-up paddleboarding is much less physically demanding than regular surfing, but is just as much fun! Lessons are given on the west coast in La Jolla Cove. Your lesson takes place in the lovely setting of La Jolla Shores, a popular beach in the northern San Diego area. You will begin with an introduction to stand-up paddleboarding (also known as stand-up paddle surfing) to get a good grasp of the basic paddling principles. Then you'll start the in-water portion of your lesson close to shore on the flat water.
You'll cover topics of surf sense, ocean awareness, board handling and the float plan. You will learn the proper stance, how to balance, how to get up, efficient paddling techniques, steering and how to turn around quickly. Once you have your balance, you'll realize that stand-up paddling is a very pleasant way to tour the ocean. It can be tricky, but with a few tips from your instructor you will soon be rippin' the waves! Stand-up paddleboarding is much less demanding than regular surfing, but just as much fun.
