There is something happening down in Appomattox, Virginia that is bound to grab the attention of history buffs. Beginning October 14, there is a historic festival taking place, that is like no other. It is the Appomattox Railroad Festival, which celebrates the history of the railroad and station.
You are probably wondering why would anyone want to celebrate something such as that. Obviously, a person would have to understand the history in order to appreciate an invention that helped transport plenty of much needed goods when available. It was during the Civil War, when the Union manage to gain control of three supply trains and burn them. They were carrying food and supplies that General Robert E. Lee was hoping to get his hands on for his men. He did not expect General George A. Custer to get there first. As a result, he was defeated. Custer's men held them off. He also took 25 guns away from Lee's men. This was one action that led to the defeat of the South in the war.
To be able to step into a part of history, and stand on the very ground where part of the Civil War was fought is priceless. Once in lifetime events like this don't happen all the time, if you are not from Virginia. A parade, street dancing, several music bands, an art show and a car show are just of the entertainment available at this historic venue. So pack up and take that road trip, or fly to Appomattox Virginia. You owe it to yourself to be in the middle of where very important history took place. See you there.
