The Friendship Flower and Folk Festival is sponsored by the Friendship Community Group in Pittsburgh, PA, not only to bring the community together but to raise funds to keep the neighborhood and Baum Grove green and healthy for the balance of the year. This event is a wonderful demonstration of how local neighborhoods can make a difference by bringing people together in friendship and at the same time giving city artists, gardeners and musicians a venue for everyone to enjoy.
The festival takes place in Baum Grove with booths lining the street, selling a variety of locally grown plants and flowers which have been cultivated throughout the years so that the plants are sturdy and beautiful. The educational aspect includes demonstrations on Bee Keeping, gardening and even biking. There will be all sorts of activities for children, including a special raffle for kids and one for grownups as well. Local Musicians will perform all day in the amphitheatre at the Grove, food will be available and there is also a fabulous book sale.
This is a charming, free, all day event that will be sure to create an old fashioned sense of place and community for the whole family to happily participate in. Because it takes place in May, and is timed close to Mother’s Day, it provides a great place to shop for special gifts that will please, benefit the Friendship neighborhood and allow people to get to know each other in a casual, yet important way. Whether you live close by or are vacationing in the area, this is a wonderful festival to plan on attending.
