Basic Self-Rescue Climbing Class Joshua Tree National Park
The Basic Self-Rescue climbing class at Joshua Tree is a great place for you to come to learn how toclimg so that you can start doing it more on your own and in groups. There are a lot of people who are not safe because they have never taken a class like this, and that is what gets them into trouble. Sign up now because space goes quickly.
The climbing class gives you a nice explanation of how to do all the things that must be done if you want to remain safe when climbing. You might have a lot of ideas of what you want to do when climbing, but it is fun for you to learn the basics while planning for the future.
The climbing class brings you all the things you need, and you can take notes that show you what should be done to get ready for the next time you are out climbing by yourself. You might not have been through a class like this before, or you need a refresher that comes through this class.
The class has a signup page online that you must use when you are getting ready for your trip. You have all the information that you need for the climbing trek, and you could bring everyone in your group along if you want to.

What is covered in this course:
How to escape belay
How to rescue and ascend to aid an injured or fallen climber using an auto-locking device (ie. Gri-Gri) as well as lowering both of you to the ground
Friction hitches for slings and cord
Backing up rappels with an auto-block knot
Bowering system with a re-directed auto-locking device
Bowering system with a Munter hitch backed-up with an Buto-block knot
The tandem rappel system
Basic 3 to 1 'Z' raising system with an auto-locking device
All Equipment is Provided. Feel free to bring your own, as practicing basic self rescue with your own equipment will better prepare you for real situations.
PREREQUISITE: Prior roped-climbing experience. You must already know how tie-in to a rope and how to belay on top-rope setting.
