Mermet Springs is an old quarry just outside of Paducah, Kentucky which has flooded and is now open to divers of all experience levels.
Mermet Springs spans eight and a half acres and free diving options and scuba classes are offered at this facility.
Easily one of the best places to dive in Illinois, the temperature of the water ranges from forty to eighty degrees, making it a perfect summer or fall activity. Divers can dive between fifteen and one hundred and twenty feet in depth and water visibility is usually between fifteen and sixty feet.
Fun events at Marmet include an underwater pumpkin carving contest, the Aquadive Watch Hunt, and New Years diving. The site also features dozens of underwater attractions including the Boeing 727 that was used in the 1997 film, U.S. Marshals. There are also submerged school buses, tractor trailer trucks, and boats that a diver can explore. There is also an underwater petting zoo!
If you are a diving enthusiast or are interested in learning how to dive, Mermet Springs is worth checking out! No matter the skill level, all divers are sure to get an unforgettable experience.
