History Comes Alive - The Winter Park Walking Tour Photos (1)
Few things are more powerful than history's transformative power, and the Winter Park Walking Tour provides a glimpse of that power. The tour takes you to places like the circa-1873 Victorian home of Dr. Henry Holland, where he tended to Confederate soldiers during the Civil War; or Cleveland School, which at one time served as a hospital for Confederates in 1864; or Latimer Hall, which still has its original beveled glass windows with an American eagle engraved in them.

And while there's plenty to see on this walking tour — like beautiful buildings and homes from different periods of Florida history — it's not just about structures. The tour guides also focus on the people who lived there and give their own stories of what it was like to live in Winter Park during different times in history.

The tour is an hour long, and it explores the history of Winter Park from its founding in 1858 until the present. If you've ever had questions about how Winter Park got its name, why there are four covered bridges in town, or why the first synagogue in Central Florida is here, then this walking tour could help answer those questions. An architect creates each tour with a special interest in the history of the location he's covering, and the tour guide is a retired teacher. The tour costs $25 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
