Meet up with your guide at the "Scissortail" gift shop. Your first visit will be to the Henry Overholser home or as locals call him, "The Father of Oklahoma City". It is a huge and beautiful Victorian mansion which was built in 1903. It is three stories high and designed in the French Chateau style. Mr. Overholser was responsible for the growth of Oklahoma City and putting it on the map.
The next stop will be the Hefner Mansion, which is now owned by the St. Luke's Methodist church. Mr. Hefner was an oil man and served as mayor of Oklahoma for a time, and also served as an Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice from 1926 to 1932. The home was built in 1917 in the Greek Revival style. It has 16 rooms. It also feature beautiful gardens and fountains.
The final tour is at the Governors Mansion. This 19 room mansion was designed in the Dutch Colonial style and was built in 1928. It took the state 13 years to come up with the funds to build the mansion, The former governors were living in private homes and hotels until that period. The first governor to live there was unfortunately during the "Great Depression". However he took to plowing the lawn into a vegetable garden which he welcomed the poor to help themselves to vegetables.
