The annual South County Balloon Festival takes place every July near Newport, Rhode Island. A staple in the southern Rhode Island community. The festival features at least 14 hot air balloonists and astronauts from around the country. Here they hone in on their craft, share their knowledge of ballooning, and enjoy the blue Rhode Island skies for three days.
Hosted on the campus of the beautiful University of Rhode Island in Kingston, come and learn about the history of hot air balloons as you wander throughout the athletic fields. Take a morning or evening ride with some of the top balloonists as the festival offers both tethered and untethered balloon rides. Enjoy a cone of cotton candy, watch the cannon lady, be mesmerized by the air jugglers, ride the carnival rides, or take in a show and support bands from in and around the state. There is also something for the little ones such as a kids’ train, inflatable rides, and magic clowns. You can also chow down on some of the best barbecues the state has to offer.
