The UNO Lakefront Arena serves as the home for both the New Orleans Men's and Women's Basketball teams. It also hosted the Women's Final Four in 1991, as well as the Sun Belt Conference tournaments for men's and women's basketball. But basketball isn't the only sporting event at the arena. Every May, the venue is the site of the University of New Orleans commencement.

The arena did suffer severe damage during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. As a result, the building was closed for three years so repairs could be made. It re-opened in 2008 with High School Musical: The Ice Tour.
