At first sight you will be in awe of the plantation as it sits back in a wide open space that use to be a pecan grove surrounded by 28 oak trees and a 1920's formal garden. Feel free to wonder and imagine the history on the very grounds you walk upon. Oak Alley offers exhibits such as The Slavery Exhibit that Oak Alley relied on as a sugarcane plantation. Here, men, women, and children were enslaved. It takes a look into their lives as emancipation and laborers continue to live until the 20th century. The Sugarcane Exhibit & Theater shows a 3D map how the sugarcane was grown and processed. The Blacksmith Shop honors craftsman and shares history of their metalwork on plantations. The Civil War Tent shares the impact the War had on Oak Alley.
A festive bonfire is held on the grounds every year. A tradition, here you will dine on a menu by local Chef's and sip on drinks as you enjoy live entertainment. Besides its annual festivities The Oak Alley Plantation has hosted film, video and other production companies on the premises. After many unexplained sightings and incidents of possible ghosts on the plantation Ghost Hunters investigated the plantation in 2008, with no conclusive findings.
Oak Alley Plantation offers public tours, school tours and field trips as well as private events. Money from all sales and private events go to the Oak Alley Foundation, a non profit in charge of maintaining Oak Alley Plantation.
