Located on that city's iconic Bourbon Street, the building is what remains of a property that was built in the 1720s, and was at one time owned by the infamous Lafitte family, headed by Jean Lafitte, entrepreneur and privateer. Although originally built for use as a blacksmith's shop, the Blacksmith Shop Bar is believed to be the oldest establishment of its type in the United States.
