Several parades commemorate Veterans' Day around the New Orleans and the surrounding area.
Join the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Greater New Orleans Veterans Council as they hold a parade and celebration in downtown New Orleans. Beginning with a formal ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, located at the Superdome, the parade proceeds through town to final at the Municipal Auditorium.
Marchers and motorists are welcome to bring display flags and signs. Vehicles of veterans will lead the march, though the public is invited to participate as well.
The nearby city of Slidell also hosts a Veterans Celebrate Freedom parade, with the Tulane University Navy ROTC participating.
Also in New Orleans, the National World War II Museum features Veteran's Day events, such as performances by The U.S. Marine Forces Reserve Band and other programs. The museum offers free admission to all veterans and active duty military, Reserve and Guard members, and their families.
Veterans can check with various merchants and restaurants for appreciation discounts.
