Your trip begins when you are picked up by your driver. Boarding a comfortable van, you will be whisked away on an unforgettable journey through some of Louisiana's most interesting places. You will see the beautiful shores of Lake Pontchartrain during a fully-narrated 90-minute drive to your first destinations of Laura & Oak Alley Plantations.
About Laura Plantation
With four generations of Creole owners and slaves having lived and died here, Laura Plantation is extremely interesting and has many historical significances in Louisiana roots. You will be able to tour the beautiful Maison Principale, the gorgeous sugar cane fields, Jardin Francais, Banana Land, and twelve beautiful restored buildings. These buildings are preserved in their original states and are recognized as homes on the National Register of Historic Places. These buildings were the homes of the slaves who lived and worked at Laura Plantation. This tour doesn't sugar coat the somber history of slavery, either. You will learn the true stories of these families while touring the 1840s slave cabins and the recording location of Compere Lapin (Rascal Br'er Rabbit).
After your tour around Laura Plantation, you will be taken to Oak Alley Plantation where you will be able to feast upon a delicious Louisiana-style lunch at the restaurant there. The menu items are amazing, featuring Cajun favorites such as chicken and sausage gumbo, crawfish etouffee with white rice, red beans and rice, home-baked rolls and butter, and indulgent bread pudding or buttermilk pie and coffee. After you’ve gotten your fill of amazin’ Cajun food, you will be able to embark upon your journey around Oak Alley Plantation.
About Oak Alley Plantation
Oak Plantation is known for its beautiful live oak trees which stretch across the pathway in a beautiful arch-type arrangement. There are 28 of these massive trees, each looked after with the utmost care by the groundskeepers. Take a stroll underneath these towering beauties for a relaxing time. You will also be able to learn about the Greek Revival-style mansion and everything that has happened within its walls since the early 1800s. The reconstructed slave cabins with the “Slavery at Oak Alley” exhibits are also interesting.
About the Airboat Ride
