Sturgill Simpson At Grand Ole Opry
A native of Jackson, Kentucky, Sturgill Simpson is a country music singer/songwriter. Once he reached his late teens, he moved out west, and in 2004, Sturgill formed Sunday Valley, receiving a big break when they played Portland, Oregon’s Pick-a-thon Festival in 2011.
In 2012, Sturgill went solo, beginning to work on the album that became High Top Mountain, which appeared the following year. This 2013 debut album is an outlaw country record in form and feel and became a word-of-mouth hit that year, thereby establishing Sturgill’s country credentials and opening the door to a wider future. The album has songs ranging from honky-tonk and pre-outlaw country-rocking to spellbinding bluegrass and emotional balladry. It is a one-stop guide to everything that made real country music such a force to be reckoned with.
