Matthew West At Grand Ole Opry
American contemporary Christian musician and actor from Nashville, Matthew West started his career as an independent musician in the late 1990s. He has released five albums and was nominated for five Dove Awards in 2005, two of which were for his major label debut album Happy.
He released three independent albums before signing with Universal South Records, and in 2003, when he released his debut album Happy, he had the success of his first radio single “More,” which stayed at Number 1 on Christian AC charts for nine weeks and received two Dove Award nominations. Matthew’s second record History was released in 2005 and was followed by a 2006 re-released of his originally independent album Sellout. In 2007, he faced vocal issues and was prescribed two months of vocal rest, but in 2008, his third studio album Something to Say was released and enjoyed chart success with Number 1 hits “You Are Everything” and “The Motions.” In 2010, his album The Story of Your Life was released in response to the thousands of life stories his fans shared with him. In 2012, his album Into the Light was released, and the single “Hello, My Name Is” reached Number 1 for a record-breaking 17 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Christian Songs chart.
In addition to his solo career, Matthew has worked as a songwriter for many Christian musicians and groups like well-known artists Rascal Flatts, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Vince Gill.
