Janelle Arthur At Grand Ole Opry
Born in 1989 in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, Janelle Arthur is an American singer, and at age eight, Janelle portrayed Dolly Parton in a theatrical production of Dolly’s life at Dollywood theme park. In 2001, Janelle was hired as a child performer for the Country Tonite Theater in Pigeon Forge, and as an adult, she has returned to the theater stage and remained with the cast for another four years, until she moved to Nashville in 2010 to pursue her music career.
Janelle auditioned for the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth season of American Idol, finally reaching the semi-finals and eventually Top 5 of season 12. At her initial audition, Janelle wowed then Idol judge Keith Urban with a rendition of his song “Where the Blacktop Ends,” and despite some struggles throughout the semi-finals, she made it to the Top 10 and later the Top 5, when she performed songs like Montgomery Gentry’s “Gone,” The Beatles’ “I Will,” The Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hanging On,” Billy Joel’s “You May Be Right,” and Garth Brooks’ “The Dance.” For the Top 5, Janelle sang “When I Call Your Name” by Vince Gill and “Dumb Blonde” by Dolly Parton, who later sent Janelle a note praising her on her performance of the song. During the Top 5 round, Janelle was eliminated, coming in fifth place in spring 2013.
