Contemporary Christian comedienne, the “Queen of Clean,” Chonda Pierce started off in comedy when she worked at Opryland USA in Nashville. She worked there for six years in order to pay off her college tuition. Pierce, who was raised in South Carolina, was a Theater Arts major at Austin Peay State University. She didn’t know how to dance, so she had to memorize jokes from Grinders Switch, Tennessee and impersonate popular comedienne Minnie Pearl.
Since working at Opryland, the comedy of Chonda Pierce has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry stage several times. She has also written eight books and has released five Gold-certified comedy albums, on top of two Platinum-certified albums. Pierce is a member of the Christian Comedy Association. She has written about her struggle in Laughing in the Dark: A Comedian’s Journey Through Depression. Pierce had a troubled childhood and found solace in entertainment and laughing.
Outside comedy, Pierce works as a spokesperson for World Vision and works with other Christian leaders and organizations.
