Bedon Lucas House near Myrtle Beach, SC

205 Church ST Walterboro, , SC 29488
This house is one of only five remaining 'high houses' in South Carolina.

Called a 'high house' because it was built so high off of the ground, Bedon Lucas House is truly a treasure. It was built in the 1820s and still stands today. In 1996 the Colleton County Historic and Preservation Society raised funds to purchase the property and properly maintain the house. It was built very near to the first settlement in Hickory Valley and is one of the oldest homes in the county. The interior has been preserved so there are a ton of historical and antique artifacts inside the house, not to mention the antique architecture itself. This house is a standing monument to early American life, and shouldn't be missed.
