Festival of Flowers is located in Mobile, Alabama's premier horticultural expo. This eminent event heralds spring with vibrant color and innovative design. Magnificence shines through each floral arrangement, garden exhibit, and architectural element. The festival interprets a new theme each year, presented by the finest local designers and the gala spans four spectacular days.
Upholding a 23-year tradition, the festival has its roots in London's Chelsea Flower Show. It also serves as a fundraiser for Mobile's Providence Hospital and proceeds support the care of its patients. Exhibits encompass eight acres on the hospital's massive grounds and pristine white tents and a smiling sky form the backdrop for many of the wondrous displays.
The show hosts both returning designers and trailblazing talent in the various flower presentations. Other favored events include a photography competition, container gardens, and tablescapes. The Floral Showcase pops with color, texture, and fascinating form. Horticultural societies are represented at the festival, their friendly members eager to field questions and free seminars address engaging topics of special interest to southern green thumbs. Master Gardeners also serve as plant doctors to remedy baffling problems and answer questions.
Shoppers can have a grand time browsing the Gardener's Galleria. The venue hosts 50 vendors and an extensive selection of gardening goods. Visitors can relax at the Garden Café, savoring tasty fare and its serene atmosphere and chairs and benches are strategically placed throughout the festival grounds so visitors can take things at their own pace. Paths are accessible by stroller and wide enough for wheelchairs so the whole family can take part.
Lauded by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the "Top 20 Events in March," this botanic extravaganza is a must-see in Mobile and a Southern wink at spring.
