Hop aboard the Moab Queen II, where nothing is quite as beautiful as a stunning night view of the serene Colorado River, the surrounding dusty Canyonlands, and the shimmering stars above.
In a span of 3 hours, you can enjoy both an excellent cowboy-style dinner and a cruise through beautiful Canyonlands National Park and the surrounding area. The terrain is full of some of the most wild natural landscapes across America, and Moab is conveniently located between Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park, and Dead Horse State Park, all of which are important American landmarks for Moab visitors to explore. This area is so inspiring that this cruise has been ongoing for more than 50 years!
Prior to boarding the boat for the cruise and world-famous Sound and Light display, enjoy a delicious cowboy-style Dutch-oven dinner at the main facilities in the Canyonlands area. Plates will be loaded with succulent pulled pork or BBQ beef, juicy corn, and homemade rolls, and they have great vegetarian options as well! Before you leave for the ship, please note that the only restroom available during the cruise is for emergencies only.
After dinner, climb aboard the Moab Queen II, the flat-bottomed boat that will take you for a three-mile trip up the calm Colorado River to explore the beautiful canyons of one of America’s most beautiful National Parks. Take a chance to enjoy the wild life around you, as it is common to see mule deer, beavers, and waterfowl like the beautiful Blue Heron. From dusk to dark, your knowledgeable guide will provide information about the settlement of the area, interesting and unique facts about the region, and the formation of the rock around you.
At the end of the ride up the river and once it has grown dark, the event becomes more formal as 40,000 watts of natural starlight light up the canyon walls, illuminating the majestic beauty of the land that inspired settlers and Native Americans alike. With the aid of lights, shadows, music, and narration, you will hear stories about the formation, creation, and history of the area from the perspective of many of the early settlers. Because the park is so isolated, it allows a stunning view of the stars and the Milky Way glowing high above that will awe any city-lover.
This light show evokes the images of the Catholic Conquistadors, Native Americans, and Mormon Pioneers that first discovered the area, and the stories come to life on the very walls of the canyon, giving you a unique experience and a fantastic end to a great day! The Sound and Light Show is traditional, which complements the story told through images as you relax upon the slow-moving river. While there are no colored or laser lights, the music and old-style lights provide the context for the history and stories of how the devout settlers believe the area was created. After the beautiful light show, the cruise returns to port.
Canyonlands by Night provides its visitors with an inside look of the beautiful landscapes and natural wonders that helped make this country a great nation, spawning passion and patriotism in its settlers. This family business is excited to share the history and beauty with its guests, allowing you to celebrate the wonders of the desert and create unforgettable family memories.
