Fourth of July on Mackinac Island, Michigan is a day to remember. Since the island is mostly state park and their are no motorized vehicles-it can feel like you are going back in time on this island. The island is only 3.8 miles but just because the island is small-don't mistake the smallness for small fun. It is quite the opposite. The 4th of July celebration begins at 12pm and then there is an annual stone skipping contest. This is a very serious competition of skipping rocks on the water. At 2pm and then again at 7pm the military demonstrations start. They are revolutionary war demonstrations that have soldiers in uniforms from the 1880s and military music and even a grand 38 gun salute. The All American Picnic is next at Fort Mackinac. It is an all you can eat barbeque with hamburgers, hotdogs and apple pie. After all of this great fun- watch the wonderful fireworks show that is 2 hours of great fun.
