Highlights / General details Learn Texas history inside the 1929 Chase Building. Stroll through Downtown Houston's Tunnel System. Enjoy a westward view from Chase Tower's 60th-floor sky lobby. Eat a Dutch-treat lunch in an air-conditioned, underground food court. Shop at Houston's Visitors Center. Visit the lobby and Tunnel-level food court of Pennzoil Place. Itinerary Learn about Texas history as you walk down Main Street into the 1929 Chase Bank Building, which features eight frescoes depicting Texas history; an Art-Deco banking hall with a stained-glass window portraying the 1836 Battle of San Jacinto, where Texas won its independence from Mexico; and 12 portraits of the heroes of the Texas Revolution. Stroll 20-feet underground through Downtown Houston's air-conditioned Tunnel System to Chase Tower, the tallest building in Texas. Take amazing photos of the westward view from Chase Tower's 60th-floor sky lobby. Return to the lobby and go outside for a photo op in front of Joan Miro's 1982 Personage and Birds. Cross the street and enter Philip Johnson's award-winning 1976 Pennzoil Place. Ride an elevator down to the Tunnel and walk underground to Skidmore, Owings and Merrill's 1972 One Shell Plaza, where you'll have a shopping opportunity at Mendota, a unique boutique featuring gifts from around the world. Walk outside along Hermann Square Park into Houston's 1939 City Hall, home to one of the largest visitors centers in the U.S. Watch a short video about Houston, pose for a photo with a life-size statue of Houston's namesake, purchase cowboy hats, postcards and souvenirs, look at exhibits, and pick up free literature about what to do in the nation's fourth-largest city. Return outside and walk to Wells Fargo Plaza, at 71 stories, the tallest all-glass building in the Western Hemisphere. Join the busy lunch crowd underground as you enjoy a Dutch-treat meal in an air-conditioned food court featuring Ninfa's Mexican Express, Droubi's Mediterranean Grill, Subway, Beck's Prime, and Salata. Finish your Tunnel Walk at Chase Tower's food court, then return to the real world: Houston's Theater District, the Downtown Historic District, and MetroRail.
