Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Center located in Hartford, Connecticut is dedicated to the life of Harriet Beecher Stowe. There is no doubt that Stowe changed the way the world thinks with her book Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The center challenges visitors with the question “What Will You Do?”

The tour begins with the Victorian Gothic-Revival home of Harriet Beecher Stowe. Also, included in the tour is the Katharine Seymour Day House, the Victorian grounds and gardens, and the Stowe visitor center with exhibits that are changed frequently. There is also a gift shop located on the grounds.

Harriet Beecher Stowe changed the way people around the world thought about slavery. The Center gives visitors more of an insight into the life of the famous author. Guests also get an in depth look on how Uncle Tom’s Cabin influenced the culture as well as how it was perceived by the general public. The Center takes it a step further and relates everything that Stowe did for attitude about slavery of the 19th century and compares it to the news that it making the headlines today.

The tour of the Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Center is part of many other Hartford tours including the Connecticut Freedom Trail, the Connecticut Women’s Heritage Trail, and the Connecticut’s Historic Gardens. The Center is neighbors with the Mark Twain House and Museum. There is a special tour that was created just for children which is filled with props and storytelling.
