Parades come to mind automatically during Thanksgiving, and Washington DC provides an exceptional time during this holiday including parades, events, tours, and local dining.
Market Street and Freedom Drive are the playground for an Annual Holiday Parade on Thanksgiving Day, with floats, a Tree Lighting Ceremony, music, and fun, starting at 11 a.m. Also, for those in the Silver Springs area, Sligo and Georgia Avenues host a Thanksgiving Parade in the Entertainment District. From 9:30 a.m. on, bands will play, and animals, marching performers, and dancers will fill the streets for a festive occasion on the 19th of November.
This is the ideal time to enjoy a guided tour and take in some of the history of the town. The Washington DC All Day Combination Tour is a comprehensive way to see the city, or for a change of pace, the Monuments by Moonlight Night Tour will show you the sights. And for those who would rather not cook on such an occasion, several restaurants have been known to provide an excellent holiday meal. President Hotel, Ritz Carlton, The Mandarin Oriental, and Beacon Hotel, area all excellent choices in the downtown area with varying prices.
