Mount Rushmore and Black Hills Safari Tour from Rapid City
This small group tour takes you to the most popular attractions in the Rapid City area. Explore Mount Rushmore National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, and the amazing sights of Custer State Park. You'll get plenty of time at each stop to tour the attractions at your own pace without having to worry about driving to the next stop! The tour lasts approximately 9 hours and offers hotel pick up and drop off at Rapid City hotels. You'll ride in a comfortable open-top van that allows you to see the beautiful sights in a more personal way. Don't worry about lunch because you'll have a picnic lunch at Sylvan Lake!
Below is the itinerary for your tour:
8:30 am: You will be picked up from your
hotel in Rapid City or Keystone.
9:00 am: If you choose to do so, you can meet at the
National Presidental Wax Museum in Keystone. The motorcoach will depart at 9:30 am.
The first stop is
Mount Rushmore. You will have one hour here to explore and ask any questions. You'll be guided through with your small tour group to get valuable information.
Next, you'll be transported to
Crazy Horse Memorial. You will have one hour here as well. Explore the artifacts, gift shop, and watch the short informational video to learn the history of Crazy Horse.
The tour group will then head to
Sylvan Lakein Custer State Park. You'll have a picnic lunch beside the lake and you'll have a few minutes to explore the area before heading to the next stop.
Next, you'll be driven along the narrow highway known as
The Needles. This road offers scenic picture opportunities as you travel through the narrow, one-way tunnels.
After the drive up the mountain, you'll stop at
Mount Coolidge, the highest point in the South Hills. You'll have about twenty minutes to take photos and enjoy the amazing views.
After your photo-taking, you'll have an 18-mile ride along
Wildlife Loop Roadin Custer State Park. You'll see buffalo, deer, antelope, elk, prairie dogs, and more wildlife here. You can stand in the bus to get great photos outside of the vehicle, making use of the open top.
Next, the tour stops at
Custer State Park Visitor Centerwhere you can read information about the park and purchase gifts.
On the ride back to Keystone, the tour travels along
Iron Mountain Roadfor more great photo opportunities. The road includes more one-way tunnels and pigtail bridges. This trip is about 45 minutes.
At around 6:00 pm, you will arrive back at the
National Presidental Wax Museumor be
dropped off at your hotel!
