Custer State Park Safari Jeep Small-Group Tour
Explore Custer State Park on this small, six-hour group jeep tour. You'll see the best of the area and learn about every sight from your experienced guide. This experience is great for all ages and includes lunch, hotel pick up and drop off, and a lot of fun.
Your day begins with hotel pick up from Rapid City. You'll climb into the Jeep and sit back as your guide directs you on an adventure you'll never forget. This Safari Jeep is designed for safety and comfort. It includes a maximized heavy-duty roll bar, an over-sized 2' tubular cage in the back and sides and an upgraded suspension. It is Buffalo Proof! If you do not want hotel pick up, you can meet at the Presidential Wax Museum where the tour will officially depart from.
Once the tour departs, the group will head to Custer State Park. On the way, you'll ride along Iron Mountain Road, an iconic road that features tunnels, bridges, and amazing scenery on your Mount Rushmore vacation. Once reaching the park, the group will stop at the State Game Lodge and Information Center for a short visit. Then, it's off to see some buffalo! This 19-mile Wildlife Loop is full of open grasslands and beautiful hills. Hundreds of buffalo call this area home along with antelope, deer, and other wildlife.
The next stop is at the top of Mt. Coolidge. From here, you can look down at the Wildlife Loop and in the distance see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Needles, and the city of Custer. You'll have time for pictures before heading to Stockade Lake for a picnic lunch of sandwiches and chips. Your guide will then take you down Needles Highway with stops for photos at several turnouts along the route. There's no need to exit the vehicle as you can simply stand for great 360 degree views and photo ops. After that, the group will stop for a break at the magnificent Sylvan Lake (It averages 3-4 lakeside weddings a week). You will have the opportunity to take a short walk around the Lake on the 1.1-mile trail, which offers breathtaking views. Before returning home, you will have a choice of a complimentary cup of Keystone Dark Canyon Coffee or a glass of Hill City's Prairie Berry Wine, giving you something to sip on as we return you to your original departure point.
