The Country Mill is a massive u-pick farm which gives families the opportunity to pick their own fresh peaches, blueberries and apples.
They also have a wide selection of other Mid-Michigan local food products, including pumpkins, hot cider and a number of freshly baked goods. The Country Mill also has a farm stand and small country store offering local handmade products.
The farm has been in existence since 1871 and it's mid-Michigan's only remaining "pick your own" farm. The Country Mill is the site of a large regional festival every September, which includes cooking demonstrations, food competitions and all sorts of fun for the family. In the fall, visitors can ride the "Orchard Express Train," a large rubber-tired train that makes it way across the orchard depositing people at the various picking stations and trees.
It's always a challenge finding an activity that will appeal to both children and adults. And it's especially difficult to find one that can get the entire family happily walking around for a few hours. The Country Mill is a reminder of the farm roots that founded the United States. And it doesn't hurt that you'll find plenty of tasty apples, blueberries, and other products as you learn a bit about farming.
The Country Mill is just a short drive from the cities of Lansing, Battle Creek and Jackson, Michigan. Make sure to visit the next time you're in the area and you can find it by simply following the apple signs.
