Spring in the Valley Walking Tour in Tennessee
The spring in the valley walking tour takes you into the Metcalf Bottoms area where you will find a school house, children's graveyard, and the Walker Sisters Cabin. The Walkers were some of the very last residents who lived inside the national park after its creation. The school house was built by Mr. John Walker himself and the story of this family is very fascinating and educational. A famous mountain man of the name Uncle Lem Ownby will also be a topic of great discussion on this tour. Life in this area and that of the first resort area known as Elkmont, the little river lumber company and railroad, famous train wrecks in the area, and much more. Along the way you will get to see all the beautiful plants and maybe even some animals. Your local guide will have a vault of useful information, and all guests are encouraged to interact with the guide for the best possible experience.

This walking tour does involve some hiking, and the walk isn't considered difficult, but you should be in relatively good condition for this journey. Tour starts at 12-12:30 PM at Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area, and ends there as well around 4pm.
Pickup & Return:
Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area located in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Returns to original departure point.
Departure Times: 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Tour times are approximate give or take 30-minutes. Most times your guide will arrive by 12:00pm, but in rare cases he may be delayed if a previous tour runs long or experiences heavy traffic in route. Tours typically take 3.5 hours but each group moves at a different pace.
The tour will depart at 12:30 or once all participants are present and accounted for, which ever is sooner. Your guide will be wearing either a blue or green shirt and hat with the Tennessee Mountain Tours logo on it, He/She will be standing in the opening near the restrooms at the main entrance to the area.
