The western hemisphere's tallest building, Willis Tower on Wacker Drive in Chicago, is where you can go to have the "Sky Deck experience."
Simply known as the Sky Deck, this glass ledge is located near the top of the Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears tower. Visitors can stand on the clear glass and stare down at the street more than 1,000 feet below.
The SkyDeck is the highest observation deck in the western hemisphere and from the top, you can see the Mississippi River and four states on a very clear day. Dining is also an option as there is a restaurant on the 99th floor that serves authentic Chicago style pizza. Weddings and other special events can be held on the SkyDeck.
Willis Tower, originally called Sears Tower, was built in 1973. The Sky Deck ledge is a relatively new attraction created from new technologically sound glass that can withstand weight and pressure. Visitors to the Ledge can get the experience of having "Chicago at their feet." There is also a museum at the 103rd floor which has interactive displays and interesting factoids about the tower's past and its future. The circular walkway allows visitors to get a panoramic view of the skyline from north, east, west and south.
Chicago has many fascinating areas to explore. You can see them all from the Sky Deck. Many of Chicago's landmarks are within walking distance of Wacker Drive, such as Michigan Avenue and Navy Pier. Chicago is a very walkable city and has a great transportation system.
