The Botanic Garden near Chicago, IL is not only an amazing collection of gardens but a museum and conservation center as well.

It has been in existence for 40 years in its present form, but it actually began in the 1890s with the Chicago Horticultural Society as founders. The love of plants and gardening has thoroughly expanded. The Botanic Garden is now a source of education as well as an amazing place to visit throughout the entire year.

The Botanic Garden has 26 gardens and four natural areas. This conservation site features more than 9,000 plant varieties including those from around the world, and is a living collection for beauty, study, and research. It is considered one of the world’s great living museums and conservation centers.

The Garden is lovingly maintained and designed by landscape architects. This peaceful location is a marvelous place to spend an afternoon or entire day wandering along the paths, meandering past lovely ponds, or spending time daydreaming on one of the benches tucked beneath shade trees. This is also a wonderful place for bird watching, which changes throughout the seasons. A Discovery Pack containing binoculars and a field guide is available to check out.

There are all sorts of events to engage visitors including special ones for children and some that focus on cooking. There is a complete library open the public. The Garden View Café uses local and sustainable products to create fresh, gourmet meals, and is open in time for breakfast. The Botanic Garden is open all year round and the admission is free, although there is a fee for parking.
