Aside from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, one of the best places to be on Groundhog Day is Woodstock, Illinois. The city offers a variety of different events during their Groundhog Day celebration, and also has the distinction of being the actual place that many scenes of the famous movie Groundhog Day were actually filmed.
Visitors will want to obtain a map of all the attractions relating to the movie so that nothing will be missed. Walking tours are held during the event and many of the sites are within walking distance of the town square. The residential houses used in the movie, including the piano teacher’s house, are located far enough from the town center that a vehicle is needed to see them. Other sites used in filming include the Opera House, which was the exterior of the Pennsylvania Hotel, the Moose Lodge where the dance scene takes place, the exterior of Woodstock City Lanes, and the exterior of the Woodstock Theatre.
Anyone who enjoys living Groundhog Day over and over needs to pay a visit here. Take part in the dinner dance and enjoy all the Groundhog Day events like a pancake breakfast, a chili cook off, free showings of the movie, walking tours, groundhog bowling, and so much more. You certainly won't regret it!
