Description
Slavery to Freedom Carriage Tour Photos (1)

The United States is one of the greatest countries in the world, but there is a dark time associated with this country. The slavery to freedom carriage tour, paints a realistic view of the period of slavery. Now this tour is not for children because there is some images that kids will not want to hear.

Once the guests check in and their time is ready they will get aboard a carriage. Now the carriage is very stable and will have a fixed roof to protect the passenger against the weather. As soon as the carriage is full the 1 hour adventure begins and the passengers will be pulled by a Percheron draft horse.

There will be plenty of highlights that the tourist will see. They will hit Charleston City Market, Saint Johns Reformed Episcopal Church, Mother Emanuel AME Church, Marion Square and the old Citadel. This tour is going to talk honestly about slavery and for a lot of people it is painful to think about and talk about, but it is history.

People who have taken this tour are impacted by what they see and learn. No-one likes to talk about slavery but on this tour they deal with it. Since the tour deals with it honestly, this is a tour that many people enjoy taking and truly never forget. Slavery is over but it will never be forgotten nor should it ever be.

This is a unique opportunity to get an honest and in-depth look into a very important yet very painful part of American history.

Our guests may check in at the Old Brick Barn on Guignard Street, or you can just look for the green carriage in line on Market Street.  We ask that you please check in 30-minutes before your scheduled departure time.  When it is time for the tour to begin, you will be picked up by a clean, sturdy, and comfortable carriage with a fixed roof being pulled by one of our beautiful Percheron draft horses.  Once everyone is on board, the tour will begin.  The Slavery to Freedom Tour is the only carriage tour that follows a specific route.  You will travel north from the Historic Charleston City Market through Ansonborough, passing by Laurens Street, St John's Reformed Episcopal Church, Mother Emanuel AME Church, the old Citadel, Marion Square, and you will pass through some of Charleston's beautiful antebellum neighborhoods before returning to the Market.  The tour will end at the Old Brick Barn, the oldest active stable in the city of Charleston.

Due to the fact that this tour will give an honest look at the horrors of slavery, we do not recommend this tour for young children.
